There are certain circustances where the Federal Government will cancel, discharge or forgive
all or part of an educational loan, which means you do not have to pay the loan back. There are very strict
eligibility rules, so be sure to select and complete the appopriate application form that best fits your particular
situation.

School Closure Loan Discharge

If you attended a school that closed while you were enrolled or if you withdrew
within 90 days of the school's closure, you may be eligible to have your Stafford, PLUS and Perkins loans
discharged. |

Spouses & Parents of September 11, 2001 Victims Loan Discharge

Discharge of the outstanding balance of certain FFELP, Direct Loan, and Perkins Loan program loans made to the
spouses or parents of eligible public servants and other eligible victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist

Teacher Loan Forgiveness Application

Full-time teacher for five consecutive years in a designated elementary or
secondary school serving students from low-income families and meet other qualifications may be eligible for
forgiveness of up to $5,000 in Federal student loans. In some cases, up to $17,500 in principal and interest of
your Federal student loans and certain consolidation loans will be forgiven if you qualify.

If you have become unable to work and earn money because of an injury or illness that is expected to continue
indefinitely or result in death, you may be eligible for discharge of certain types of federal student loan debt.
